Alma Poloni is a Researcher at the University of Pisa, and in 2013 she was awarded the qualification of Professore Associato. Her main field of research is the economic, social and political history of the cities of central and northern Italy in the 13th and 14th centuries.

Her main areas of interest include the commercial and industrial development of the Tuscan cities, social mobility, the rise of popular movements, political conflict and the replacement of ruling groups in Italian city-states. She is particularly interested in the interactions between economic change, social tension and political conflicts.
